David Pogue let the cat out of the bag today in his column in the New York Times, TV Here, There, Everywhere, when he explained in "a statement that's never appeared in print before" that one could use the Slingbox with Verizon's EV-DO service to watch TV on a portable device such as the Handspring Treo 700. It will be interesting to see how Verizon reacts to this, given that their "Important Customer Information" about their "Unlimited" data plan states:
Unlimited NationalAccess/BroadbandAccess services cannot be used (1) for uploading, downloading or streaming of movies, music or games, (2) with server devices or with host computer applications, including, but not limited to, Web camera posts or broadcasts, automatic data feeds, Voice over IP (VoIP), automated machine-to-machine connections, or peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing, or (3) as a substitute or backup for private lines or dedicated data connections.
Aside from their curious definition of "unlimited" they may find themselves in a position where they can't really prohibit what may turn out the be the "killer app" of wireless data.
